This week is the 24th edition of the European Disability Employment Week.

EDEW is an opportunity to examine the various measures put in place to facilitate the professional integration of people with disabilities. It is a time of exchange and sharing where we can learn about and raise awareness about the work of people with disabilities.

We have decided to ask a few questions to one of our collaborators, Yoann who is suffering from a physical disability since his birth.

What obstacles are you facing searching for a job?

“There are 2 things: the disabled access to some facilities and also the accessibility to transportation in general. Long before that, there is also restrained access to education. Teleworking can solution access to work but also to high-quality education.”

Do you think companies have a role to play in the recognition of people with disabilities?

Yes, I do. People often hide their disability because they are afraid of discrimination. People actually come to me to ask me for advice and information.”

Do you practice any sports?

“Yes, but before fencing, I wasn’t practicing any sport by lack of time and information. Now I am participating to national fencing competitions for people with disabilities. The Paralympics definitely helped to discover the possibility of practicing sport even if you are disabled.”

Any last words?

“Since my birth, I had to adapt and be flexible. My disability is an asset more than a disadvantage.”
